“Human first, then a Therapist”
First off, thank you for considering PsychoSocial Therapy. My name is Luis Cornejo (He, Him, His) and I am a Queer, Indigenous, Latinx(e) Bilingual Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am the son of two immigrants and the first in my family to obtain both a bachelors and masters degree in the U.S.
I graduated from California State University, Long Beach with my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology (2015). I also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development from San Francisco State University (2011).
I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, creatives, artists, influencers, the LGBTQ+ community, Latinx, and BIPOC folx. I am also the founder of PsychoSocial, a multimedia platform created to help provide mental health education
I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. I use sex therapy to provide an opportunity for individuals to explore their fantasies, sexual trauma, sexuality/identity, and provide space to heal through sexual empowerment.
I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). With EMDR, I support folx in processing trauma as well as other blockages keeping them from manifesting the life they want.
“Everyone has a story”
I grew up in a traditional Guatemalan & Mexican home. My parents both immigrated to the U.S when they were approximately 13 years old. As a first-generation U.S born citizen, I often struggled feeling stuck between three worlds. To add to that I learned early on in my life that I was different from my classmates. At first, I didn’t know what I was experiencing and it was a scary and confusing time for me. I eventually learned that I identified as Gay.
Unfortunately, most of what I heard about being Gay was negative. My parents are also very religious and were not accepting of my sexuality. It took years of self-discovery, therapy, and growth before I was able to live in a way that feels authentic to me. Today I continue to learn about myself and now identify as a queer individual. My experiences have fueled my passion for supporting others in their journey of self-discovery and helping them manifest the lives they want! As a mental health professional, I don’t only provide therapy, I am also an advocate, creator, and entrepreneur.
My passions include mental health, education, fashion, art, creativity, photography, public speaking, building community, and entrepreneurship.
I currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my partner of 12 years and our two fur babies.
